Good Ground

Hey everyone!

So…a while ago I was praying and I said: “Lord I want to be good ground!” Recognizing that I didn’t rehearse the word that I received in church every Sunday, and recognizing that the words that pierced me for the moment had somehow slipped away, and I wasn’t examining myself because I wasn’t rehearsing.

So I was in bible study on Wednesday, and the parable of the sower came up, here it is:

He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: “Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” (Matthew 13:3-9 NLT)

I don’t remember what question came up for this parable to come up, but here’s what I got from it tonight and Wednesday Nightt. The ground that this passage is referencing can represent the heart.  We need to make sure that our heart is in good condition to not only receive the word of God but to produce the fruit of his word too. If our heart is stone, or is full of offenses that will choke the life out of whatever we receive (example: ‘that applied to my life, but because I don’t like the person that said it to me, Im just going to ignore it’) there’s no way that we will be able to take in, nourish, and let that seed grow in us to produce Gods harvest.

How do we get good ground? How do we get a heart that is good soil?

God says it here!

And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. (Ezekiel 36:26, 27 NLT)
